Spanish Needle is a beautiful addition to our family of healing herbs due to the variety of uses. It is renowned as being antibacterial (infections internal or on skin/wounds). Antiseptic(mouthwash/wounds), Antidysenteric, and antimalerial properties to name a few. In Jamaica this herb is also commonly used to treat the common cold and flu. It is an excellent remedy for inflammation in the joints and edema (swelling). It is a mild diuretic so it encourages the cleaning and release of fluids from the bladder. It can be used as a remedy for conjunctivitis (eye infection) as well. It can also be used to aid the cleansing and healing of cuts and wounds by washing the area and leaving the fluid to dry on the open area to protect it from infection and promote healing. HOW TO PREPARE.
BRING 2 CUPS OF WATER TO A BOIL THEN ADD A SMALL HANDFUL OF SPANISH NEEDLE TO THE POT AND LET IT SIMMER FOR 10 MINUTES. TURN OFF THE STOVE AND LET IT SIT FOR AT LEAST A HALF HOUR THEN DRINK ONE CUP PER DAY AS NEEDED. IF USING FOR THROAT ACHES OR INFECTION, USE THE TEA TO GARGLE THOROUGHLY THEN SPIT IT OUT. TO USE TOPICALLY USE THE TEA TO WASH THE INFECTED OR OPEN AREA WELL AND AFTER CLEANING PROPERLY ADD SOME MORE TO EITHER DRY ON THE SKIN OR ONTO A CLEAN BANDAGE TO COVER THE AREA.
